Introduction to Place value :
The numerals 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 are called digits. It is by using these ten digits that numbers are formed. The value of teh digit in a number is determined by its place in the number and is called the place value.
For example, to write the numeral for two thousand four hundred and eighty seven, we write 2487. Here we use the digits together with place value. The place value increases in powers of 10, starting from units. The digits in numbers from right o left have the place values of 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000 etc.
Consider number 33. Here both the digits are the same . The first digit 3 from the right is called units digit and has a value 3 x 1 or 3. the second digit on the left is 3 but it is in the tens place and has a value 3 x 10 or 30. So the number 33 = 3 x 10 + 3 x 1 = 33
